On January 28th, Sam joined "New Romance", founded by Jay, as their Saxaphone/keyboardist, after briefly filling in for them. The guys released their first single 'I don't need you now'. At the same time, Sam filled in as Rhythm Guitarist for "The Irenes" and helped the band through a BOTB contest as well as playing their single launch on the 14th July. New Romance broke up soon after their single release in May, and Sam asked Jay to join a new project he was planning (called Nova) soon after Wilds broke up. Sam left The Irenes on 14th July after the single show to pursue Nova along with Jay, Danny Doyle and percussionist Mark Mayhem.

Jay joined the Cloves as frontman after Danny left The Undecided to join The Basement Effect. Override came runners up in BOTB competition and they released their debut single 'Holding Onto Nothing' on 14th April. After the Basement Effect rebrand show to "Wilds" on 1st July, Override was forced to end on July 23rd as Sam and Danny needed to focus on their other project. Shortly after the rebrand however, some relationships within the band turned sour resulting in the 6 year project disbanding officially on 11th November.

The Basement Effect re-released 'Just Like You' on April 16th as a teaser for their upcoming 5 song EP 'The Young and the Same' on the 10th September. At this time, personal conflicts began within the band, and Sam decided to create a new band Override along with Danny Doyle from The Undecided, Tom Canning from Against The Sky and bassist Harry Miller.

The Basement Effect entered the Liverpool Rocks BOTB competition and came runners up in the Final at a sold out Arts Club theatre stage in Liverpool. They released their first single 'Just Like You' on 12 February as part of their Debut EP "Pros and Cons". Their shows gained increasing popularity and they began playing festivals such as Threshold and X&Y along with artists such as Hudson Taylor and Amber Run. On October 3rd, they supported The Cure and David Bowie guitarist Reeves Gabrels.

By this time, Jay joined the Undecided (backing vocals/Guitar) along with future Override guitarist Danny Doyle. They began to play venues such as O2 Academy stage 2, Theatre at Arts Club. They released their first single written previously by Jay called 'Lost in Translation'. Tom was playing drums in his band from college "Against the Sky".

Gump began playing much more regularly, playing the Everton Fanzone on 11th January, also their first main show at the Zanzibar on 25th April. By the summer time they rebranded to "The Basement Effect", and were building more of a following over the year.

Jay began to learn the guitar at 15 years old so he was able to perform a song by Gareth Brooks at his grandad's funeral.

Jay formed the band 'Shoot the Messenger' at 14 as a singer after having experience in musical theatre since age 6 perfoming in toy story, Mary Poppins and the Wizard of Oz.

Gump won school BOTB Competition in the Summer term. After this they started busking on the streets of Liverpool. On top of this they ended up winning the Tickle the Ivories competition, winning recording time at the famous Parr Street Studios. By 16th September, they managed to get a Radio Merseyside interview. With the growing publicity, they were asked to play the Liverpool One Christmas light switch on on the 8th November.

Sam Co-founded his first band with school friend Harry Maitland called GUMP (later renamed The Basement Effect). He only took the role of frontman because no one else in the band wanted to be the singer. By 2012, Gump started playing their first shows in school summer concerts performing covers such as 'Everybody's Changing' and 'Sweet Child O' Mine'.
